Product Description
Barney Oliver is considered one of the greatest applied scientists of the 20th Century. He entered Cal Tech at fifteen, went on to Stanford University and joined Bell Laboratories in New Jersey after graduation. He remained there until persuaded by Dave Packard to relocate to California to become Hewlett Packard’s director of research and development. Truly a renaissance man, Barney excelled not only in science and engineering, but also in astronomy, education, surveying, writing, sales, and was a first-rate repair technician. He held 60 patents. Barney’s efforts helped in the formation of the SETI Institute where he was a member of the Board of Directors. Upon his passing in 1995 he left a bequest to ensure the continued activities and success of the Institute. This beautifully bound book includes 28 published papers and 72 unpublished on topics such as physics and mathematics, electronics and electrical engineering, education and social issues, and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.
