This design study, first published in 1971 by NASA Ames Research Center, has been reprinted by the SETI Institute and is a must have reference for those interested in the original engineering ideas for detecting extraterrestrial life. This technical document is an interesting historical record of the early concepts of planetary exploration using antenna array systems and signal processing. This major feasibility study was lead by Barney Oliver.
